IP address access
-
Hi Guys
First of sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.
I have a slight issue i hope someone smarter than me can help me figure out. I have my firewall setup more or less default with a few bits extra done like HAProxy and acme etc so my default gateway IP is 192.168.1.1 however i also have a mesh WIFI network and it defaults to 192.168.3.1 and runs its own DHCP server. Does anyone know of a way for me to access the WIFI web admin pages on my wired devices that get there addresses from the firewall. I have tried the likes of disabling the DHCP on the WIFI but that fails and i loss all WIFI. I have also tried changing the gateway on the firewall to what the WIFI defaults too and then changing the WAN interface of the WIFI to a static IP and disabling the DHCP on it and again breaks WIFI. Any help would be perfect as i am at a loss.
Thanks

It might help if you mentioned the make of the mesh gear.

Well if your going to have your wifi router doing nat. And you want to access it from its wan (your pfsense network) then you would need to enable remote access on it. And then access it via its wan IP.. The ip it gets from pfsense in the 192.168.1 network.
Or change it to just be an AP..
Which "mesh" system your using would help us help you set it up so you can access it from your pfsense network.
No none of the stuff you stated you did would work.

Apologies I thought I did mention what WiFi routers they where they are HUAWEI WiFi AX3. If I configure them in AP mode I loss all mesh functionality.

@eoghan said in IP address access:
If I configure them in AP mode I loss all mesh functionality.
Then continue to nat, and open up remote acces on them so you can access via pfsense network. Or admin them once you connect to them via wifi..
If they do not have a remote admin gui access sort of setup, then try doing a port forward from its wan to the gui port on its lan side 192.168.3 address
Remote access might be called something like
Remote Administration Administer router from the WAN Enable Web Access from WAN

@johnpoz Thanks however they don't seem to have any kind of remote management feature as they are very cheap ones until I get the money up to get more higher end mesh routers that have better features in terms of control. Can you recommend any that I could buy?
Or should i bite the bullet and just configure them in AP mode and lower the WIFI power so they don't overlap to more or less force them to drop the connection and reconnect when moving between them?

Clients are the ones that determine which AP they connect too. While their are some protocols that can help in switching 802.11k,r and v. It really comes down to the client.
Your meshing would only help with wifi uplinks from one satellite or node to another one.... Are your other nodes wired?
You really should have no issues just running whatever your using as stand alone AP..

@johnpoz yeah both the main node and satellite node are connected by wire they are a bit of a silly design too be fair I'll just configure them as standard AP's the mesh functionality was just a bonus when I bought them so no issues to me if I lose that side of it. They are very cheap routers but for the price there WiFi speeds are excellent to be fair. Thanks for the input I will probably wait a few months then when I decide to upgrade stuff in my network I'll ask the questions here and get better advice here then me just going oh that plugs into that that shall do kind of thing lol.

I'd be surprised if you can allow access from the WAN side of the wifi mesh somehow. They must offer some control there?
This thing? https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/wireless-routers/ax3-quad-core/
And you have a number of them?Steve
