I am in the process of evaluating some small form factor firewalls to replace the ASA5506 that has been the workhorse for the last few years. I remembered that one of my staff had purchased an SG-4860 a few years ago and stashed it away in the lab along with a note to update the BIOS due to the clock bug (that we also had in the ASAs!)

I got the unit booted to the image on the flash drive and was successful in upgrading the BIOS with the BIOS12 package. I rebooted the device and accessed it via the console and chose the option to factory reset the unit. The box rebooted after that was complete and I was given the option for F1 pfsense and F6 PXE. Pressing F1 drops down one line and it looks like it wants to create a spinning line animation to show boot progress but never does anything after that.

I know that the unit is probably not supported any longer, but I wanted to get it up and running to evaluate the system and how easy it would be to phase out our ASAs for a newer Netgate model. Any assistance would be appreciated!

If your having issues with sg4860, you can just email support.. They will help you get the thing booted via clean image, etc.

Now if the hardware has failed - then yeah you might be out of luck for warranty, even though they did extended like the clock bug thing for like 3 years or something.

But they will for sure send you current factory/pfsense+ image for your netgate hardware and how to do a clean install.

That's the point where the baud rate is set so if the config it's loading has anything other than 115200bps set it's the last thing you'll see. Try connecting at 9600.

Otherwise open a ticket with us and get the 21.05 restore image to install clean:

Just include the serial number or NDI.

@stephenw10 Thank you for the info! I will definitely open a ticket now. I did try all the baud rates (2400, 9600, 19200, 38400, etc) and nothing is visible once I press F1.

            Great support!
