pfsense hardware with 3G/4G?
-
Hello,
I am looking for a firewall hardware solution running pfsense that would support an internal 3G/4G modem. I would prefer to use the internal 3G/4G module and not via an external separate modem(ethernet).Does anyone have experience with Netgate 2100 with a 3G/4g card in the SIM slot, and specifically for global(non-American) cellular network support?(Europe, Finland)
Any recommendation son 3G/4G cards supported and working? Seems like the Sierra Wireless MC7304 is the European version but it is not listed as supported here:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/cellular/hardware.html
Any ideas / suggestions on what to use for 3G/4G internal card on Netgate in Europe?
Best regards,
Kim -
The 2100 uses the m.2 slot for the SIM so you need modem that will fit that like the Sierra EM7305. I'm using exactly that combination here in the UK right now. I've also used the EM7455.

Sierra EM7305
Ok thanks for the info. What's the difference between EM7305 and EM7455? The EM7455 is a bit newer hardware, or?

Yes, it is the newer version. They had separate models for Europe and the US in the 73 series, em7305 and em7355. The em7455 covers both markets.

I don't know about this hardware but @darkfall is looking at purchasing it
https://teklager.se/en/products/routers/tlsense-i7-4lan
and on a quick look it appears to have a sim card slot on the board. Teklager on their site don't mention it, but the computer is manufactured by Qotom and on their site they say it is 3G/4G.

Exactly like the 2100 it doesn't have a modem built in. The SIM slot is required to use a modem in the m.2/mPCIe slot but does not indicate radio hardware is included.
