Gateway auto reconnect
-
I've had some internet instability on occasion. Most of the time my zabbix monitor shows just occasional packet loss. Things return to normal without any intervention. However, sometimes pfsense marks the wan gateway as 'down'. In those cases, for the past 4-5 times, manually forcing the wan as 'offline', and then 'online', brings the connectivity back instantly. What is the best way to automate this kind of thing? Netgate SG-1100

@gpfsenser What version of pfSense? Sounds similar to what we saw at a client but it was supposed to be fixed in 21.02. Per that thread we ended up installing the cron package and a script to load that bit of PHP, which triggered pfSense to detect the gateway was up again.
Or disable gateway monitoring so it's "always up."

I will try the cron route to see if that helps. Running 21.05.1-RELEASE (arm64) currently. This has been a chronic issue for me I'd say for years - pfsense does not like it when the internet is unavailable and things always get weird. ;-)

@gpfsenser I've also added a 'gateway group' to see if this helps - seems to be a requirement to the fix. Even if it works, this certainly falls into the 'super ugly' category. Appreciate the quick reply. Everyone is using their home internet more than they ever expected - a good opportunity I hope for pfsense to polish off some of the rough edges.
