I was working on my laptop and everything was OK. My brother turned on his laptop but could not access the internet. I checked our iPhones and could not access the internet either. My laptop's internet was still OK. The wifi was working on all devices.

I went into PFSsense and did a DNS Lookup diagnostic. I got 127.0.0.1 unavailable, 1.1.1.1 8 msec, 1.0.0.1 7 msec.

      I did a reboot of PFSense and now I get 127.0.0.1 0 msec, 1.1.1.1 8 msec, 1.0.0.1 7 msec.

Also, internet access on my brother's laptop and iPhones has been restored.

I have the DNS resolver enabled with pretty much default values.

I would like to find the root cause of this issue, if anyone could guide me?

It might also be DHCP. If you had a valid lease and the others didn't, you could have that situation. If it happens again, check the device addresses too. You could also run Packet Capture or Wireshark to see what's happening.

Also, it appears all the devices may be connected via WiFi. There might be some issue there.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
        UniFi AC-Lite access point

        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

Easy : whatever OS he uses, he changed something.
As any device (PC) uses a DHCP client these days, so the user can :
          Order one.
          Receive it.
          Unbox it.
          Putting it on.
Select a SSID or slide in the Ehernet cable.
          Connected.

          This is a 100 % no brainer.

          On the pfSense side :
Do the initial set up. Change only the admin password.
And maybe, for very special cases : make the WAN work.
          Done.
          DHCP server on LAN works.

That's a lucky shot. the resolver could be restarted ones or twice a day ? week ?
It will do so with a second or so.
You doing a "resolve' right at that moment, that a 10/(24*3600) chance.

The resolving (unbound) should always work.

          Now who is "1.1.1.1" ?
          I have only "127.0.0.1".
The resolver does all the work for me.

Btw : even if unbound was not running, this would not break Internet access.
          Just the 'name resolving stops'.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??
