So after upgrading to 2.3 I noticed that the notifications that were working just fine in 2.2.6 and before stopped working.

I upgraded to 2.3.1 last night thinking all the strange issues would be resolved but notifications still aren't working Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I can ping, trace, and telnet to my mail server but in the logs it says things like

      May 20 13:34:34
      php-fpm
      75187
/system_advanced_notifications.php: Could not send the message to jxxxxxx – Error: could not connect to the host "207.xxxxx": ??

      May 20 13:32:21
      php-fpm
      9561
/system_advanced_notifications.php: Could not send the message to jxxxxxx -- Error: could not resolve the host domain " smtp12.xxxxx.com"

I can reach this from my pfsense and my computer behind the pfsense.

      PING smtp12.xxxxx.com (207.xxxxx): 56 data bytes

At least in OP's case, it looks like there were connectivity issues at the time, which first prevented name resolution from succeeding and later preventing connection to the defined mail server.

There aren't any known issues with notifications in 2.3x.

I just got notification as the system was rebooting on upgrade from 2.3 to 2.3.1

And just did a test from 2.3.1, and that worked.  Also after the upgrade I got an email from service watchdog that it restarted freerad, which was after the upgrade.  It uses the same notifications settings, etc.

Now what would be slick, maybe 2.4??  Would be the ability to list what generates notifications and to pick and choose what you get and maybe even add things..
