    He,

    The HD in my pfSense box died so I embarked on a project I had been meaning to do for quite some time - RAID two new hard drives and reinstall it.

    Done.

    Everything works, except the Snort package.

    When I reinstalled pfSense I restored the config I had and rebooted. All of the packages that I used before (and obviously referenced in the config) were installed, although there were a few fstream() errors. Anyway, all the packages work fine now with the exception of the Snort package. It's listed in teh menus but when I click on it I get:

    Warning: fopen(/usr/local/pkg/snort.xml): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /etc/inc/xmlparse.inc on line 158 Error: could not open XML input

    I thought I would simply reinstall it, however it's not listed in the 'Installed Packages' list nor in the 'Available Packages' list.

    Can anybody help? Would prefer to remove it and reinstall.

        Surely SOMEBODY must have answer or even a suggestions to make with this?

        This is clearly a bug in the pfSense package manager (specifically the bit where it installs packages from a restored config) or the Snort package. Nothing complicated was done here.

        Can somebody tell me how to manually remove a package and I'll remove it and reinstall it?

          The snort package is unstable and has been removed from the package list.

          Check the package forum.

            @AudiAddict:

            The snort package is unstable and has been removed from the package list.

            Check the package forum.

            Many thanks for that. I assumed my problem was to do with the upgrade and not with Snort itself! I assume the problem is that pfSense tried to download Snort (as it's in the config) but couldn't so it's half there and half not so to speak.

            I'll follow the problems with Snort in the package forum.
