1U enclosure for Jetway NF9HG
-
Hi,
I want to replace my current pfSense install on ESXi with a dedicated box because well, running your router on an hypervisor that needs to router to operate normally isn't the best architectural wise ;).
I first considered the SuperMicro C2558/C2550 motherboards but I really find them to expensive for what you get (I am a simple nerd with some servers at home). After a while I found some threads on this forum of people that had the Jetway NF9HG, a simple quad core industrial board with 4 Intel NIC's for about € 200. Very nice indeed!
Some specs:
- https://www.amazon.com/Jetway-NF9HG-2930-mini-ITX-Network-Motherboard/dp/B00XNR4HE2
- http://www.mini-box.com/Jetway-JNF9HG-2930-Celeron
It looks perfect to build some pfSense boxes with, but I am looking for a compatible 1U enclosure where the IO (RJ-45 jacks) are at the front. In another thread someone named BlueKobold suggested suggested the 1U enclosure from here but I don't think this motherboard will fit in that enclosure since the I/O lay-out doesn't seem to be compatible :-[. This is really too bad because with a just plain black front with some cutouts it looked perfect at first sight!
So my search continued and I came accross another [url=http://www.jetwayipc.com/content/?JBC153F9HB(G)%20Series_3616.html]option from Jetway, but I can't find it in stores anywhere.
So to make a long story short: I guess more people here have this board and know of 1U rack options for it, so if you know of something please let me know :). I don't mind making some modifications by the way (like holes), but I don't have the tools for anything fancy.
Thanks in advance a lot! If I placed this thread in the wrong section, let me know.

How about using Silverstone PT13 and cut a hole on the side of PCI-E slot?

Thanks for the suggestion. That actually isn't a bad idea, but I can't find any 1U brackets for the PT13. Do you know if there are any? I want to put it in my server rack, so 1U is a must.

Go google.com and search for "1U case w/ front I/O" without any PSU inside, because that board
is coming with a PSU jack directly on the board, on the left side on the front panel. The named case above is coming with custom made front panels that must be payed extra.
But for sure their will be many cases on the market that comes together with front I/O ports
or panels and you might be paying only 60 € till 120 € for that. -

I used the PT13.. you can see my build here: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=95286.0
As far as rackmounting it, I don't think there are any brackets. You could however use a 1U shelf, and put other things next to it like modems, small switches, etc.
Another good option would be to pick up a cheap 1U enclosure and just mount the motherboard inside. I picked up a 1U Bluecat Adonis 250 off eBay a few weeks ago for $20 shipped . Something like that would look great. Here's my "Hooli.xyz" build with it (if you get the joke from Silicon Valley on HBO: http://www.overclock.net/t/1605227/build-log-hooli-xyz

Where's the problem to find a case (with front access) that fits?
