I have my workplace fully on ADDS and DNS running on windows server 2012 servers across my org. I have a remote office connected with ipsec site to site vpn to a pfsense box. I want this remote office to be able to resolve the windows based dns using fqdn.

On my General DNS Resolver Options page, I have DNS resolver enabled on port 53, and a domain override pointing to one of the windows DNS servers. I'm unable to resolve the names, but routing over the tunnel works by IP. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The solution for me was to switch to DNS Forwarder, and list one of my corporate DC's in the domain overrides section.

Now to get the office side to resolve my home addresses….
