      Hi,

This is my first post here… I want to share my experience with this little red box from gateProtect (GPA-400)
If someone else have done it.. please share...

I happen to have one of those laying around for a quite a while and I decided to give it a try with pfS.

To make things short, this box have an intel mobo, 1.5Ghz celeron M processor, 1GB ram and 500G hdd @ 7200rpm
It also have a LCD display (which I need some real help with it) and 5 1g nics. It have 2 case fans and 1 processor fan..
Besides the external look, this box is amazingly quiet...

I was pretty sure that this can be done, so, I read a lot of information about pfS but sadly, there is not much information about the red box.
So, by trial and error, I first try to install the x64 serial image, but this box does not run any x64 (I think..), so I ended up installing the x32...

At first, an "error 1 lba xxxxx" came up all the time, so, like I said, I read a lot and making a change on the boot partition size to 20g,
the unit boot up flawlessly.... I will try to re-install with a bigger partition, maybe 80gb to 100gb size...

Now, the only thing I need to figure it out is to id the LCD panel and get lcdproc to work....

I will open up the box again to get more information on the LCD... So I need guidance on how to id the correct driver based on the LCD make...

I will take some pictures of the inside of the unit and share later on...

      Any help... much appreciated....

        Hi

This too is my first post  :)

Thanks for posting about the success on the Gateprotect GPA-400.

I have installed Pfsense successfully on a Gateportect GPO-150 I hade no issues and it installed cleanly.
I then installed on a GPA-125 after swapping out the HDD it installed and booted cleanly. It initially gave mounting / errors after kernel load.
I am currently trying to install on a Gateprotect GPA-250 unfortunately, I am getting error 1 LBA #### at boot. Once I have it working I will post here. Pfsense seems to run very well on these devices so far.

Hi hi, I just got an old GPO-150 from a client and would like to install pfSense on it too… How did you get the installation started?

I've successfully connected to the Serial-Console using a HP Serial Cable with 9600 8N1. But now I'm wondering which image to flash on to my USB pendrive...

            You probably want this:
            https://atxfiles.pfsense.org/mirror/downloads/pfSense-CE-memstick-serial-2.3.2-RELEASE-i386.img.gz

The serial console should be available at 115200 after booting on the first com port.

THX Steve, that made my day… But just for the next one getting his hands on a Gateprotect GPO-150 with Atom D525: That CPU is capable of x64 so I used:

                https://atxfiles.pfsense.org/mirror/downloads/pfSense-CE-memstick-serial-2.3.2-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz

And yes I prefer pfSense over GateProtect...
