Hi guys I'm looking for some insight into a condition which may make my USB Modem appear on initial boot (Fresh installation) then disappear on subsequent reboots.
I am using pfSense 2.3.2-Release (amd64 nanobsd). I can install a fresh image, configure the modem in ppp settings, and set it up to assure it's online. Verified.

Then on reboot I receive this on boot up.

      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
uhub0: 8 ports with 8 removable, self powered
      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
      ugen0.2: <vendor 0x8087="">at usbus0
      uhub1: <vendor 2="" 9="" 0x8087="" product="" 0x07e6,="" class="" 0,="" rev="" 2.00="" 0.17,="" addr="">on usbus0
      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
uhub1: 4 ports with 4 removable, self powered
      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
      Root mount waiting for: usbus0
      ugen0.3: <unknown>at usbus0 (disconnected)</unknown></vendor></vendor>

If I remove the modem then reinsert the modem I can see it again. I'm wondering why the host isn't detecting the modem past the first boot, and only on reinsertion.

      dmesg | grep ugen
      ugen0.1: <intel>at usbus0
      ugen0.2: <vendor 0x8087="">at usbus0
      ugen0.3: <unknown>at usbus0 (disconnected)
      ugen0.3: <chicony>at usbus0
      ugen0.3: <chicony>at usbus0 (disconnected)
      ugen0.3: <sierra wireless,="" incorporated="">at usbus0</sierra></chicony></chicony></unknown></vendor></intel>

Can anyone offer any insights as to why this might be happening?

      Any help would be great.
