      Hello everyone,

      My pfsense 2.2.5 – 64 bit firewall with :-
Intel Core 2 duo 2.5 Ghz
      4GB Ram
      Intel G31 Chipset board

Issue :  The onboard graphic display has failed.  Not able to get VGA output to the monitor connected ,  else machine working fine.

Suggest which  pci express  graphics card  among  AMD / NVIDIA  series  can  be safely used without any drivers conflict ?
Do I need to install the drivers at all ?    as I just about need the display alone.

Example :  NVIDIA GeForce GT 210  or  AMD ATi Radeon HD 5450 ,  etc ..    or whichever would just about do the job to get display to the monitor connected.

      Regards,
      Ashima

You have absolutely nothing to worry about gfx card compatibility on a firewall system. PfSense doesn't even include X11 in it and there is no other display output enabled than the text console. Any PCIe card will work. Even an ancient PCI display card if you happen to find one will do the job.

Yes, pretty much anything should work. The only issue is that the BIOS has to recognise the additional graphics hardware and automatically switch to it as the primary device. Most motherboards will do that.

As an alternative you might try using as serial console if you have ports.
