      OK.

Just having a play / test until my hardware arrives..

Installed pfsense 2.3.2 on a Virtual PC (virtualBox) with 2 LAN interfaces.
      Host IP 192.168.100.50

      pfSense show
      WAN as 192.168.100.254/24  DHCP
      LAN as 192.168.1.1

Upstream gateway is showing as 192.168.100.1 which is my router.

I connected a tablet to the 192.168.1.x range and could access the pfSense interface.
On the tablet I set the gateway as 192.168.1.1

From the tablet I can't ping anything outside of the 192.168.1.x range. Should I be able to get to the Internet ?

I assume there is further configuration I need to do.. can someone point me in the right direction.
      Thanks

Start with basic network troubleshooting.  Validate your client settings on the tablet with respect to IP address, netmask, gateway, DNS.  From the pfSense WebGUI under the Diagnostics menu, can you ping anything or resolve any hostnames?
