[SOLVED] Moved, New ISP, WAN DHCP no longer works

    Ok, I moved, had charter before with standard dhcp on wan interface.
    Now have dsl at new isp, I configured the dsl modem to bridge, and according to isp tech support need just dhcp on wan like before

    It never gets a dhcp ip - but if I plug directly into the modem via laptop, everything works fine.

    I get a 192.222.xx.xx ip w/.1 being the gateway

    whats got me confused in win10 it shows 10.0.1.11 for dhcp server ip

    is win10 sending the dhcp request to the 10.0.1.11 ip?  If so - how do I tell pfsense to do the same?

    Let me know if I need to post more info

        I have also tried a completly different dsl modem that I had with Centurylink before charter - it was also used on pfsense with just plain wan dhcp - and it still dont get a ip going thru that modem as well.

        So 3Rivers Communications is doing something different with dhcp

        btw the modem I am using from them is a Comtrend AR-5381u

          Notice you aren't receiving any DHCPOFFER messages.  Your DHCP requests are being ignored or blocked.  Check with your ISP as they may track your MAC address and only server to a known MAC.

            Should I clone the dsl modem mac address?  But I am going to assume it is linked to the mac of my laptop since I instantly get a IP when I plug it in direct to the dsl modem.

              Try one or the other.  If none work, call your ISP.

                I the laptop and re0 interface have the same mac address?

                  That's bad news and you don't want that to happen.  Make your MACs unique, just like IP addresses.

                    did you power cycle the modem after changing devices?  So your laptop gets an IP from the isp.. A public 1, ie not 10.x or 192.168 or 172.16-31 some public IP.  As you stated you put your dsl "modem" into bridge mode..

                    So unplug your laptop, power off the modem, turn it back on.. Let it boot up and show that it has internet.  Then connect pfsense.

                      Figured it out, wiped the ssd to do a fresh install - and upon autodect of wan/re0 I got a duplicate mac address - at one time I set it the same as the dsl modem.

                      Blanking out the mac address line in the GUI for a adapter - does not set it back to its factory address?  This MB has 2 adapters, so I just set it one less on the last part of the mac address and it was happy.

                      Dont know why it did not work from the very start - but now reinstalling all the addons and rules etc

                      Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

                      what might have help for anyone else in the future - i did from windows cmd prompt a ipconfig /release then hooked modem up to pfsense
