Question for the forum Mods/Admins
-
Does it help reporting the spam posts or do you guys search them out on your own? Reason I ask is I know it creates a report to mods/admins and I was wondering if that increases the amount of work you have to do cleaning up spammers and post reports.
That is all.

spam bots arent that smart and usually post in one of the first couple categories of a forum so its usually pretty easy to spot them. That being said, as i run several forums myself, its good to report them because you never know if anyone else has.
ive even considered adding a flagging system to my forums with a setting such as, if more than 5 unique members not created in the last month flag something as spam then hide it automatically and send to admin for review. ive seen simular implementations and it works well for the most part.

I host a small private forum and we run SMF software as well. We don't have the spam issues since it's a private forum by invite only. I just was curious if the reporting was necessary and/or creates more work for the admins to clean up.

mine has nearly 20,000 users.

It definitely helps. SMF organizes them pretty well in the admin panel and it's easy to group the email notifications if multiple people report the same topic.
