I've went over the documentation of installing L2TP over IPSec and I am now able to connect to the VPN Server.

Unfortunately I cannot do the following
1 connect to the internal LAN ( browse the intranet, connect web interfaces. )
2 connect to the internet though the VPN Server.
am i missing some firewall rules?

I would like to know what rules need to be in place for me to see servers within the network

        L2TP  to LAN ?

and to go "out" through the location as well

Start by adding the folloowing to your L2TP rules

ipv4 UDP any destination port 1701
          ipv4 destination local network subnet
ipv4 not to local network subnet gateway WAN
