New User - No WAN IP unless I spoof the pfSense MAC to my old router's MAC
-
I'm brand new to pfSense. My first attempted use was today. I am running 2.3.2-RELEASE (amd64) built on Tue Jul 19 12:44:43 CDT 2016 on a PROTECTLI FW10408 box. This box has the following product description amazon.com:
"The Vault is a 4 port router that comes pre-installed with the latest available version of pfSense. The hardware is based on an Intel Quad Core J1900 CPU @1.99GHz. It comes with 4GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB mSATA. The vault also includes 4x Intel NIC ports, which are known to work much better with pfSense than realtek or others. This unit is very small, measuring just 5.2 x 4.9 x 1.5 inches and its fanless, so it makes no noise. The operating temperature is -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and the Vault comes with a VESA mount bracket and a US power cord with switching power supply. pfSense includes a host of power features that give the user enterprise features in an open source firewall solution. Beyond a standard stateful firewall, set up DHCP, DNS, High Availibility (CARP), Multi-WAN, server load balancing, VPN (IPSec, OpenVPN), PPoE, Reporting and Monitoring, Dynamic DNS or a captive portal. Further, pfSense also comes with an impressive list of add on ‘packages’ that allow for users to customize what the router can do. For full network control install a squid proxy to filter network traffic, a TFTP server, a GIT server, iperf, cron, bind, or even Postfix Forwarder."
My problem is that I cannot get a wan IP address assigned to the FW10408 unless I spoof the MAC address with the MAC address of my netgear R6100 wireless router. This means no internet access unless I spoof the MAC address. Prior to embarking on the pfSense journey the R6100 was the device connected between my cable modem a 24 port gigabit switch on my home network. My problem is that my intent was to use the R6100 as a wireless access point in conjunction with the pfSense box. However I am concerned that if I do that I'll have two devices on my network with the same MAC address. This doesn't seem like a wise thing to do…
Does anyone know why I cannot get a DHCP lease (i.e. wan IP address) from my cable modem without spoofing the MAC address of the pfSense box with the MAC address from the wireless router that I was previously using?

Never mind. I fixed the issue by removing the spoofed MAC address form the psSense settings and then cycling power on my cable modem. Why didn't I think of trying that before posting?
