New user :) Setup Wizard - Sufficient for security to start with?
-
Hi there,
Forgive me if this has been asked before (I'm sure it has in one way or another).
I'm very new to pfsense and am looking to learn as I go. Spent the past few days watching videos, reading the subreddit, docs section and this forum. I have a WatchGuard Firebox X550e with Pfsense 2.3.2 installed. I'll be hooking up my home ISP's router/modem to it (in modem only mode).
It's a little overwhelming but I've currently got the Setup Wizard open and am confident I'll complete this and get routing.
Question is - Is this 'sufficient' enough to start with and leave connected? As in, is it secure enough at this point for me to leave running, replacing my current ISP router and use it without fully configuring every other option right away? As I understand it out of the box pfsense blocks all traffic not explicitly allowed so for the most part it should be alright?
I don't intend to do any port opening right away, as above, learning as I go. But naturally don't want to put myself in a silly position to begin with :)
Thanks very much
Jeff

Yes, Outbound (default LAN ingress) is allowed to leave, Inbound initiative (WAN ingress) is locked-down.
