      Hello,
I have a static WAN address and a local network on the 10.x.x.x network. When I type in my WAN address into a browser window it takes me (redirects?) me to the pfSense webUI.

Maybe a vague question, but how can I troubleshoot this? What might be the reason?  I guess its DNS related?

That's expected because the nginx webserver serving the webgui listens on all addresses by default. If you need ports 80/443 for other purposes on the WAN interface you should move the webgui to another TCP port at System->Advanced->Admin Access->TCP Port.

          Normal and expected.

If you want to block access to the web gui from an inside network, block access to the web gui port on This firewall. Not, for instance, LAN address.
