      Hi guys,

Any advise what hardware will be suitable to sustain 1000 OpenVPN users? Any pre-build platforms?

      Regards,
      Nick

1000 is a fair amount of users, but you'll probably be mostly constrained by CPU performance as it relates to the amount of bandwidth those users are consuming.  OpenVPN being currently single-threaded, a single server instance will be bandwidth constrained by the amount of traffic requiring encryption/decryption.  The same CPU constraints apply to the clients as well, but that load will be spread over many clients.

Have a look at this thread: http://serverfault.com/questions/439848/openvpn-performance-how-many-concurrent-clients-are-possible

          Hi whosmatt,

Thanks for your reply. I see the topic has been discussed in the past, but unfortunately in different forum.

From your experience guys, can someone share any reliable and fully compatible with pfsense motherboard / Optical Network Adapter / Cryptographic Card?

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

          Regards,
          Nick
