Hi all, having some issues trying to find supermicro boards that are on the pfsense hardware support list. I have narrowed choices down to a few motherboards but need to confirm the disk controller compatibility.

Option 1 - SuperMicro X9SBAA-F: Marvell 88SE9230 Disk Controller? I saw some old threads about no support back in 2013 and wondering if this is now supported?

      Option 2 - SuperMicro X7SPA-HF-D525:  Intel ICH9R Disk Controller

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go with an Intel chipset any day.

Why such old hardware? There are plenty of newer Supermicro boards out there that run pfSense just fine.

Since pfSense is based on FreeBSD, hardware support is based on what FreeBSD supports. The FreeBSD hardware compatibility list is available here.

Hi Jailer, could you recommend a board that I could find from www.cdw.com or from www.insight.com?

Avoid Marvell controllers unless you're absolutely sure that the board offers an option (BIOS option) to run the controller in AHCI mode. Pure AHCI controllers are no problem for FreeBSD but Marvell ones in their proprietary mode may not be supported at all.
