      Version 2.3.2
      Netgate SG-4860

This issue has been happening since upgrading to 2.3.x from the older 2.2.x, and it's taken me months to narrow it down to the pfsense box as the culprit.

I'm experiencing random virtual interfaces cutting out for a few seconds and then coming back. Sometimes connectivity will flap randomly for 20 or 30 minutes before going back to normal. During episodes other virtual interfaces on the same physical interface show no signs of the problem. Multiple virtual interfaces are affected, but usually not at the same time. Episodes vary randomly from once every couple of weeks to once per day.

Tried changing cables and swapping physical ports. It is happening on virtual interfaces (ie: VLANs) and not propagating to other virtual interfaces on the same physical interface, so it doesn't smell like a hardware issue.

The interface and firewall configs for the affected virtual interfaces are very vanilla - basically just tagging VLANs and routing between them.

Firewall and system logs show nothing corresponding to the episodes.

Status -> Interfaces show no errors and no collisions on any of the defined interfaces.

I'm stuck trying to narrow this down any further and was hoping someone here could offer guidance for additional troubleshooting steps.

This smells like it could be related to two other issues I had after upgrading from 2.2.6 to 2.3.2:

Which subsequently led to a follow-up question which went unanswered (and still unresolved):

Could all of this interface weirdness be rooted in the upgrade from 2.2.6 to 2.3.2? Prior to the upgrade I was having none of these issues….
