      Hi

Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone..

Due to its location my Qotom J1900 runs around 45-50c most of the time.
I decided to add an external fan and now the temp is at 32c.

      I decided to buy this :  https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00G05A2MU/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item
It happily sits on top of the Qotom blowing cool air across it. I've not needed to screw it in place.

On the slowest setting it is silent and that has reduced my boxes temp to 32c.
Even at full speed it's still pretty quiet.

Hope this is help to some one :)

I've had two of those exact devices… both developed a rattle after a few weeks or months...

I hope you have better luck.

        Take care
        Gary

I also have one of these I used to use on my asus router, good for a few days/weeks then noisy.  They not built to last.

Now I have a passively cooled pfsense box, way happier.

          pfSense CE 2.7.2

I'm doing something similar with at 12V Scythe Kaze (half width) fan. Because it's powered by the 5V USB port it's running very, very slowly. The token airflow is still enough to bring CPU temps down a lot.

It's been running for about 4 months with no issues.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. How do you have the fan situated? It was not clear in your above post. Just laying on top of the external heatsink fins blowing air down onto the fins? I have a fanless pfSense box also runnings a bit warm…45C-48C.

                  Hi.

The fan is simply placed on top of the unit blowing cool air across it.
                  No issues so far !
