I am running pFSense 2.3.2-release-p1 (amd64) on a Alix APU (AMD GX-412TC SOC) installed on a mSATA drive.  I was testing some configurations and wanted to reset the firewall to factory defaults.  I tried the reset option from both the console menu (option #4) and from the web configurator (Diagnostics –> Factory Defaults).  My issue is that once the firewall reboots, it still retains the old configuration (e.g. iP addresses, rules, certificates, etc).  The web configurator wizard does run and it does prompt me to change some of the basic settings such as the password, time zone, etc.  I can also manually change all the settings, but I have a bunch of rules and I don't want to go through the process of manually deleting all the settings (firewall, NAT, vpn, etc) every single time I want to start from scratch.  Is this normal behavior?  Is the only way to revert back to a "clean" configuration to re-install pFSense?

Did you backup your last settings? If yes, maybe you have to clean installation and restore your last backup.

No. It's supposed to restore /conf.default/config.xml in the first place (besides other things, such as uninstalling packages etc.)

I performed a clean installation with the latest image file downloaded from the pfSense website and I am now able to perform a factory reset of the firewall after each of my test configurations.

            Thanks for your help.

Well, probably fastest solution since you wanted a factory default anyway. (Otherwise, grabbing the /conf.default/config.xml and restoring that would probably work, sans the additional work that the script is supposed to do.)
