      2.3.2-RELEASE-p1 (amd64)
built on Fri Sep 30 14:36:56 CDT 2016
      FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p9

      package: sudo 0.3

I have a pfSense at a client site.  The client wants to SSH into the box and view the filter.log via the following command:

      clog /var/log/filter.log

… according to this page: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Why_can't_I_view_view_log_files_with_cat/grep/etc%3F_(clog)

I can SSH as root and perform that function just fine.  I created the client user from within the UI and made it part of the "Admins" group (of the UI).  I installed the sudo package, assigned him:

User/Group: [his login], Run As: root, Command List: All

then I log in as him to test and I still have the same problem - permission denied.

      clog /var/log/filter.log
clog: ERROR: could not open /var/log/filter.log (Permission denied)

Do I need to reboot the pfSense for changes to be recognized?  Hummm?  Am I doing something wrong?

      thanks!~

You need to run the command through sudo.

          sudo clog /var/log/filter.log
