AC wifi not supported? ASUS AC-3100
-
What a let down, unless there is something I'm missing.

You're not missing anything. FreeBSD's Wifi support is second rate at best (used to be better before 802.11n) and you're better off buying a dedicated AP such as one of the cheaper models from Ubiquiti.

You can still use a consumer router as an access point regardless of what protocol it is. Just disable DHCP on the router and assign it a static IP outside the DHCP rang in your pfSense box and connect a cable to one of the LAN ports.

Exactly what Asus device are you referring to here?
Everything I can see that might be an 'AC-1300' is already a router and not pfSense compatible.
