Can't ping NAT IP from Windows server outside of network

  • We set up a Linux server running Nagios at my company to monitor both our internal and external servers. We have a Windows 2008 server that sits outside out network that we wish to monitor. Our Network admin setup a NAT IP which points to the Nagios VM server we are using. Typing the ip in a browser works perfectly, however we discovered that from the Windows server we are attempting to monitor, we cannot ping the NAT IP that was setup, but a web browser can resolve to it.

This is quite strange. The application on the Windows box listens to port TCP 12489, but I am not sure what we need to set in the NAT settings or what else could be the issue.

Can you give me some insight as to where to start looking?

    Please advise
