So I'm familiar with Debian and not FreeBSD. I looked through the forums for a generic "installing" thread but could not find an explicit one. Therefore, here is my beginner question.

I want to install Monit on my pfSense box (2.3.3-RELEASE-p1 amd64). The Monit web site has monit-5.21.0-freebsd-x64.tar.gz package. I enabled pfSense SSH and opened a console. I used fetch monit-5.21.0-freebsd-x64.tar.gz, downloaded the tarball, unzipped (tar zxvf), and went into the subdirectory. According to the Monit instructions, the next step is to issue ./configure but no file exists.

This is typical for every *nix instructions ever published. The author goes into great detail about every other step except the first step never works.

Can anyone offer any generic advice about installing a package similar to Monit on pfSense / FreeBSD console? I'm also curious if Monit has dependencies that may also need to be installed.

      For reference: https://mmonit.com/wiki/Monit/Installation
