I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this or if it needs to go into a subsection but I'm sure someone will move it if incorrect.

Anyway, to my issue (and please excuse the lack of logs as I don't know which ones, if any, to include).

Over the past 3 days my pfSense has been dropping connection on my LAN such that the only machine I can ping from the pfSense server is the pfSense server itself. I cannot ping any other machines on the network from the pfSense server but I CAN ping other machines from other machines (if not rebooted) but can not ping the pfSense server or get external access to the internet from any of these machines. I CAN get external access from the pfSense server itself (i.e. ping bbc.co.uk or google.co.uk).

I have read something about ToS (or something like that) relating to large packets and all that stuff and have tried enabling and disabling it to no avail.

I have also switched the NIC interfaces (one is on-board, the other is USB, both Gigabit) and use the external for internal and vice versa (after re-configuring of course) but that hasn't resolved the issue. The only way I can resume a connection is to reboot the server and then it will last a few minutes to a few hours and then disconnect again.

I have even reverted to a virgin install and reconfigured all my port forwards and DHCP reservations again but this did not fix the issue either.

I did notice that an update happened after the fresh install and I'm not sure if it is a recent one (2.3.3 p1) or not as I have been running the server without any issues for the last month or so after I first started to use it but I'm unsure as to whether that update was applied then or not

Is this a known issue?  I have read many posts in the forums about it happening but none of the "solutions" when a topic has been marked as solved has helped.

I am going to reinstall the server one more time and this time NOT do the upgrade if I don't receive any responses as right now my entire network keeps going down which removes me from the outside world.

Regards and thanks for your assistance.

      Chris

If you are using a usb NIC that  might very well be the problem. USB NICS first mistake

But as I stated, it doesn't matter WHICH interface I use, USB or on-board, it still disconnects.

Yeah, stop using USB NICs. Whether your LAN or WAN disconnects, result is the same. USB NICs => junk.

I've order a new NIC today which will arrive on Saturday. However, if it was the USB NIC at fault then the fault would switch from LAN to WAN and not disconnect all LAN machines all the time; they would stay connected but I just wouldn't be able to get to the outside world.

I NEVER have an issue from my pfSense server to to the outside world just internally on all machines when it happens and thus can't get to the outside world when it does happen.

Why would it start happening all of a sudden and so intermittently?

Let's see after my new NIC arrives and see if that solves the issue!
