I asked this in another thread but figured it needed a thread of it it's own for clarification. I updated to 2.3.4 on my APU2C4 last night without issue. When it finished booting I went the GUI and noticed a new "Netgate Unique ID". What is this? There's nothing in the release notes about it.

Can one of the devs clarify what that is?

The new Netgate ID allows us to uniquely identify any running instance of pfSense and so offer support to users we have not been able to serve before. It's important to stress that this ID is a human readable text string. We don't transmit it anywhere at any time. A support customer may be asked to provide it in the future, but they will do so simply by reading it from the screen.

Where is the source for /usr/sbin/gnid? Can't seem to find much about it.
