Disagnostics: edit file no longer writes on embedded

On pfSense-20081020-1824.img running off CF on an Alix,
Trying to edit a file returns 'failed to write file' upon saving.
IIRC, this worked on 1.3 previously and the system would mount the filesystem rw behind the scenes and allow you to edit files.
