New User Cannot get PFSense Router to work

  • Hello,

Completely new to PFSense. Tried installing on an old desktop earlier today and couldn't get it running after several hours of trying to troubleshoot. The error I kept getting after ipconfig /renew was something to the effect of Npcap cannot find DHCP server and Ethernet 2 cannot find DHCP server. Here's the result of ipconfig /all:

Again, I'm completely new to this and haven't attempted to set up this kind of a network before…if I need more information, please let me know and I'll post what I can as soon as possible.

    Thank you!

  • Looks like your WAN is trying to obtain an address in the 192.168.1.x/ subnet..  If that is the case and your pfSense LAN is still in that range it will not work.

You need to change one or the other.  Or put your modem in bridge mode.

What does npcap loopback adapters have to do with anything?

Why do you have npcap even installed?  Are you running wireshark?  That has zero to do with your machine clearly got an 192.168.1.101 address from a dhcp server..
