Your just trying to run nginx how exactly?  You installed what on pfsense?  A package from freebsd?  What version of pfsense are you running?

I'm using pfSense 2.3.4. I installed nginx from freebsd package.

hmm … nginx is installed by default.

installing it manually can brake your system
