      Alix2D3 (NOT Alix2D13) it has no RTC battery.  I can't access the Internet after a new installation. I used a freshly written "pfSense-CE-2.3.4-RELEASE-4g-i386-nanobsd.img.gz" image on an 8GB CF card.

      Anyhow, no matter how many times I restart, I can only access Internet from within pfSense 2.3.4.

      I noticed that the time on the Dashboard was 1999(?) or something like that.

      No matter what I do, can't get clock updated, until I copied the following line:

      time.nist.gov 0.pfsense.pool.ntp.org –-> Timeservers

      Afterwards everything worked.

      Can you tell me why pfSense will not allow any connected computer access to Internet until proper time is acquired from a Timeserver?

      Is it possible to make pfSense not require proper time before allowing Internet access.  At least for old hardware such as the Alid2D3, which does not backup the Time?  Most regular wireless routers will still work without proper time, it seems.

      Thanks!

        Not enough information to say why. You'll need to look at the logs and describe in much more detail exactly how the clients are failing.

        The default configuration has unbound configured to use DNSSEC, crypto operations require an updated and accurate clock, so that could be part of it.

        I have an ALIX 2D3 here as well running 2.3.4 but it doesn't have any problems even with a default configuration with unbound and DNSSEC. It's possible there is something about your particular environment which is preventing it from working.
