    Sorry for the totally noob question.  but is there a limit in the NICs pfsense can handle?

      i really dont think pfsense have any limit(or freebsd for that matter)

      Limit is more likely in pci bus irq´s and ofcourse free slots in the box

          If you search the forum for "multiport" you'll probably get a few hits.  ISTR that there can be problems getting all ports on a quad port card working.

            Or you just use a VLAN capable switch and have multiple VLANs on a single physical interface.

            I once had a temporary setup with 5 Gbit cards and on each 12 vlans
            –> 60 "virtual" interfaces on pfSense

              I would seriously consider vlan'ing as GruensFroeschli said for anymore than just two nics, it’s not as scary as it sounds. I found that the old x86 PC architecture is just not geared up for so many interfaces - there just aren’t enough IRQ's to go round even with bridge chips. With an 8 port vlan Gig switch coming in at about £67 you'd be mad not to go down this route.
