      was hoping either:

      BL-WN2210 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter  – http://www.lb-link.cn/products-detail.php?ProId=20

      or

      Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 -- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/89450/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-3165

would be compatible with pfsense as i have both and i cant seem ot find any information of either being supported yet.

      thanks

I've been told 802.11 AC is not supported by freebsd yet, so not on any of it's distributions like pfsense.

Here is the supported devices list for freebsd.

The best and most common answer will be to buy an external WAP and use that for BEST results.

The Intel 3165 should be supported by the iwm(4) driver. But that's not in current pfSense because it didn't appear until FreeBSD 11.

It is in 2.4 snapshots though thgat are built on 11: https://github.com/pfsense/FreeBSD-src/blob/devel-11/sys/dev/iwm/if_iwm.c#L5525

However it does not support hostap mode so you can't use it as an access point.

The LB-LInk BL-WN2210 looks to use the rtl8192cu chipset which should be supported by the urtwn(4) driver in current pfSense. It does appear to be able to operate in hostap mode.

However I would always recommend using an external access point if you can. I have never personally used either of the above devices.

          Steve

              Hi,
in the past i had used some USB wifi devices with RALINK RT5370 chipset. Most of them work in AP mode, but some won't do this very long.  ;) They run very hot and died after some days/weeks.
              And also only 54 Mbit!

So i prefer to use an external AP!

              best regards
              Dirk
