Looking for a 1u or fanless solution for my AM1 build
-
Currenty running pfsense with an older system that used to be an htpc. It has a AMD Athlon 5350 with an MSI mini-itx mobo. Bought a dual intel NIC off ebay thats working wonders. I do have a rack mount with a switch and patch bay and would like to utilize that or something much smaller than the itx case thats its in now. Im just wondering if its worth converting it into a 1u case or maybe try a different system all together. Its a basic setup so far. I may be using open vpn shortly for a few application. I started using pfsense because I was tired of using my ISP router (Hitron CODA on Rogers) Is there something you can recommenced me looking at?

For a fanless setup I'd recommend an Apollo Lake mini-itx board.
J3455 is similar in performance to your current CPU on passmark.
J3355 is dual core, similar clock speed to what you already have.
Try the M300 w/ picoPSU for a case & PSU.

http://www.mini-box.com/picoPSU-80-60W-power-kitYou'll need a pci riser to fit it all in that little case, the J3455 will require an x1 to x4+ riser to fit your current NIC.
