I am trying to use my HD Home Run outside of my house.  I found this write up http://stuff.purdon.ca/?page_id=472 where someone was able to do so using iptables.

Is there a way to do the following using pfSense?

      #iptables -t mangle -A FORWARD -s 192.168.5.45 -j TTL –ttl-set 64

That's just standard "port forwarding". Look under "Firewall / NAT / Port Forwarding" in the pfSense web UI.

This quote from the linked web page should have tipped you off "First, forward port 5004 into the HDHR using iptables". They only gave an example using Linux' iptables, but the idea of port forwarding applies to at least any NAT firewall/router, even if configured differently.

I was able to forward the port.  I am asking if there is a way to mangle packets and set TTL to 64 instead of 3?

I'm guessing the ttl is to stop people accessing it remotely.

If you can't get it to work how about setting up VPN access to avoid the hops.

It looks like you could change the ttl at one point https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=4712.0, just checked my /etc/inc/filter.inc and it looks totally different ** Use with care **

Think your looking at line 611, however each update the file could be over written.

You could also install Plex Media Server, which will let you watch your HD HomeRun from any web browser or iOS/Android device (https://www.plex.tv/features/live-tv-dvr/). While Plex is free, the Live TV/DVR functionality does require a $30/yr subscription.

I appreciate the responses.  VPN does work but I was just hoping to avoid that.  I have also tried Plex Pass, I can watch live tv on my local network but not outside.  Outside I can only watch previously recorded content.

Does that mean it didn't work or the feature wasn't available? Their DVR product is under active development so perhaps this wasn't there when you tried it. I just tried streaming from my HD HomeRun Prime via Plex to both my iPad and laptop over a cellular connection and it worked.

I tried plex pass 3 weeks ago.  That is interesting, I will have to try again.
