      Hi all
I would like to know if someone as ever installed a Pfsens on a ADSL modem router ?
All the HW I found to install Pfsens are only Router.
I would like only one "box" for the 2 function (ADSL and Router)

      Many thanks

Uhm…. no, you cannot install pfSense on an ADSL router. You can configure your ADSL router as a bridge and use pfSense as the router.

You could build a custom router with one of these: https://www.draytek.com/en/products/products-a-z/router.all/vigornic-132-series/

Don't do it. Just get a simple DSL modem with a single ethernet connection. Put it in PPPoE passthrough mode and you're done.

              Ok thanks for the answer.
I will det a very small modem and a small router.
(Grimson I like your idea but a card like this need a big computer to be plug and the idee was to reduce the size of the box to the maximum :-) )

by the way what type of router would you get.
              The parameter to choose :

              • connection will be les than 5Mbits
              • some Wifi user (between 10 and 20 to share the small connection…)
              • some domotics with a raspberry connected to my home (snmp flow)
              • the availabitity to connect to the VPN of PFSENS to administrate at distance.

And router cheep ... if possible

              Any idea ?

Anything with a AES-NI enabled CPU will do that for the next 10 years. That'll probably be the only real requirement.

If 5 Mbit/s is really all the speed you require I'd suggest the SG 1000

                  https://www.netgate.com/products/sg-1000.html

Remember you'll also need a switch and an AP for wireless.

If you want more power look at the new SG 3100

                  https://www.netgate.com/products/sg-3100.html

You will still need an AP, but it includes a 4 port switch.

If you use third party hardware make sure it uses an Intel chipset for the NIC, avoid Realtek.

The netgate are very nice indeed but it is not what I called cheep ;-)
                    With a ALIX 2D2 + a Wifi card I could have a Wifi Router

                    But thanks for the link.

dont use a wifi card on pfsense. youll be disappointed.

either use a wifi router you already have as an AP, or buy a dedicated AP (a cheap ubiquiti unifi is good) Archer C7v2 with xxxwrt is a better solution in my experience - but you have to flash it, and it's not as pretty. It is cheaper though.

pfSense is a x86_64 Software firewall and so you may need to take x86_64 hardware for or as the underlying hardware!
There are also two ARM images from pfSense developers team, but only matching the SG-1000 and SG-3100!!!

All the HW I found to install Pfsens are only Router.

??? The hardware must be x86 64Bit if you want to go with the actual version 2.3.4-p1 or the newer version 2.4!

I would like only one "box" for the 2 function (ADSL and Router)

Then it would be nice to set up a "box" with an internal PCIe ADSL/VDSL modem likes the DrayTek VigorNIC 132 / 132F
                        PCIe card.

The netgate are very nice indeed but it is not what I called cheep ;-)

Ok, that might be but there is also not a internal modem inside, you were talking about! There for you will need
a external modem likes the DrayTek Vigor 130.

                        With a ALIX 2D2 + a Wifi card I could have a Wifi Router

Jep this is right but not a modem internal router you were talking about!

If you are interested to get all in one box you might be walking the line together with the Vigor 132/132F PCIe card
if this is now not any more so urgent to get box inside of the box, you may go with an external modem likes the most
users and be free to take any other box you want.
