Running NanoBSD Version on USB- Depreceated?
-
Hi all,
I am going to install a pfSense diskless box. For pfSense itself I wrote the Nano-BSD Image on the USB-Stick I want to use.
I guess it will work nice, but I have a question:
On the wiki I found the statement "NanoBSD is depreceated with 2.4 pfSense".Whenever 2.4 will be released, will my NanoBSD version be upgradeable?
How will 2.4 deal with flash/USB memory?
Thanks
/KNEBB

2.4 will be released in less then 2 weeks (if nothing major happens)

don't install a nanoBSD, use a full install instead. How will 2.4 deal with flash/USB memory?
you can create ramdrives from GUI
i honestly don't see the point in running a diskless pfSense.

Well, "diskless" in terms of not having a harddisk. Hardisks can fail (well, USB devices, too) and my hardware has no SATA ports, so if the P-ATA disk fails I do not have a replacement for it. So I prefer to install on a USB stick instead. But obviously I need to reduce writing activity…

How old is that device? Remember there will 32-bit support will be dropped with pfSense 2.4 release.

It is an Astaro ASG220 from 2008 as far as I can see.
I tried with 64bit version but it came up with something like "CPU does not support long command mode" or so. 32bit went fine.Ok, got it. Guess I cannot use these devices with upcoming 2.4. Damn.
They are so cool with their 8 Ethernet interfaces… :( :( :(
