Problem loading backup in different hardware
-
Helo everyone,
I have a problem when im gonna load a backup obtained from a device with a specific hardware to another with different hardware. I thought the problem was the name of the interfaces according to the driver: for example in the original device in the first network interface names it as "em1" and in the other device it names it as "igb1" because they have different drivers. My question is: is there any way to change the name on the second device from "igb1" to "em1" so that when loading the drivers and starting again pfSense take the configuration correctly?
Is it possible to extract a backup or modify it to correspond to the name of the interfaces "igb1, igb2, igb3 …"? I made the changes in the .xml backup, changing the part where the interface "em1, em2, em3..." indicates "igb1, igb2, igb3..." and reassign the interfaces after loading the backup the pfSense doesn't run. Thanks!

Rename them directly in the backup xml file.
Also did so after changing my hardware a couple of days ago. -
I did the changes in the interfaces in the .xml, and then I reassigned the interfaces after load the backup. Then after apply changes pfSense reboot and doesn't run.

Use console access, and check out the starting log - and when done, use dmesg to inspect it.
The issue might be : what NIC's pfSense found, and how you named them. -
I did the changes in the interfaces in the .xml, and then I reassigned the interfaces after load the backup. Then after apply changes pfSense reboot and doesn't run.
That's wrong. If you changed the interface names in your .xml according to your NEW systems interface names, there is no reassignment step, as pfSense just uses the interface definitions from the xml file and simply starts.

After investigating the error it wasn't the interfaces. I load the full backup without modifying the .xml and I reassign the corresponding interfaces without success so I create the interfaces one by one (not a big deal). Well, when I connect via serial appears a message DXE on startup:
Available status code
DXE status code available
ESes:; 1Once the message appears, it does not load anything else in the shell but I can connect via web. If a connect again via serial the shell doesn't show any information.
