ZFS or UFS for single SSD

I just setup my pfSense box a few days ago. During the install process I was presented with an unexpected choice between ZFS and UFS. I chose one of the ZFS options initially but got an error that 2 drives were needed for this option so switched to UFS. Today I saw a post regarding trim support only in ZFS. Makes me wonder if I should reinstall and change the file format to ZFS if that is even possible with a single SSD?

I chose ZFS and am using it with a single SSD. Can't remember the installation option…

Thanks. At least I know it’s possible now. Just leaves the question of which FS is recommended?

I don't know the recommendation (UFS was the only option in the past), but I don't think you can go wrong with either.
I chose ZFS since I've been using it for years on my FreeBSD machines. It's a really amazing filesystem, and I would highly recommend it for storing data that you care about.

TRIM is supported with either file system. If you're doing a fresh install and have enough memory then ZFS is the better choice.

Well, that was easier and faster than I thought it would be. The only real problem was in picking the disk to stripe. Every time I selected the disk (I thought) I would get an error that a minimum of one disk must be selected. Turns out that you can't just highlight the disk and press enter/return. You have to use the space bar to actually mark the disk. Wish that was in the instructions somewhere.
Restore from backup was very fast, simple and painless though. No surprises there.

Yup that's one of the more wonderful things about pfSense, recovering from a failure is trivial as long as you have your config backed up.
