    I've put together a technical walkthrough and collection of scripts for monitoring pfSense using Nagios and SSH (instead of NRPE). It is written specifically for Nagios XI, but Core should work as well. FWIW, the scripts could also be used for monitoring via NRPE if that's what you want. Beyond the standard Nagios monitoring plugins, it also monitors interfaces, VPNs, services status, state table, and version. I'd be happy to add more over time.
