      Hey all-
Forgive my ignorance and probably repetitive post. - I currently subscribe to NordVPN.  I configured my router using DDWRT and got AWFUL results on speed. The router is a Linksys WRT1200AC. My original test I ran prior to flashing the Linksys, got me 675mbps and 300 over WIFI.  After flashing router to DDWRT, the wifi dropped to 25mbps. I configured the settings exactly how the openvpn settings were supposed to be (according to Nord).

Now my question is this-if open vpn is “monolithic” or runs on runs on one thread. If I install PF Sense onto a machine that is a core i5 / 3.1 GHZ / 8GB / 1TB will that machine achieve close to gig speed-assuming I install a gig capable NIC. If not, any clue what kind of speed? The vpn provider told me the issue was due to router lack of cpu power. I’m assuming this would solve the problem.

I know the vpn servers are fine bc when I run vpn from a specific client like a laptop, I only lose maybe 25mbps. (From 300mbps to 250-275).

My two cents. i5, 3.5 Ghz would be a driver for speed and not 8GB and 1TB. You can get away with half the RAM and a way smaller Hard Drive. As Open VPN is monolithic, multi threads are useless atleast for OpenVPN connection.

They best way is put together a machine or use another computer temporarily to test this out.
