Ive recently switched ISP to UNO I have the fiber pro package with 51.3Mb down. Ive noticed when downloading from Steam and Uplay my connection drops out completely after reaching max speed then comes back up shortly afterward. It doesn't seem to happen with any other type of downloads FTP etc seem to be fine at max speed. I checked the pfSense dash and dpinger is reporting packet loss. I don't remember ever having this problem with other ISPs, is this normal? Do I have to implement some sort of traffic shaping or is there maybe a fault with the line or my hardware?

My config is a fresh install of the 2.4.2-RELEASE-p1 pfsense on a Dell r210 II, the WAN and lan are both utilizing ports on a Intel quad nic and I'm using a BT Openreach B-Focus v-2FUB/r rev.B to connect to the WAN which is configured to pppoe with my ISPs provided info. Ive tried new cables and another pfSense box and it was the same so I don't think its hardware related. I'm not sure what else I can do, Ive limited the speed in the clients and I seem to be getting packet loss quite away from max speed.

Could be a low latency Steam CDN coupled with lots of TCP connections. All but the most recent bleeding edge TCP congestion control algorithms have a minimum bandwidth, below which they will not respond to congestion. You could be getting DOS'd. Steam and Windows updates are two common issues for these kinds of questions. Not saying this is the issue, but is very likely.

You could choose a CDN further away and see if that helps.

I cant imagine why I would be the victim Ddos, I have no web services running just a couple of PCs and other devices. I'll look into low latency thing you mentioned, thank you for your help.
