Link problem on 10 gbit nic

  • Hi

I just got a newly bought supermicro x10sdv-4c-tln2f in and have gotten pfsense installed without a glitch.
The problem is that my wan connection in to my appartment is 100 mbit full duplex which the 10 gbit supposedly should be fine with,
but the interface does not go up and i am unable to choose 100 basetx under interface settings.
Is there anything i can do to force 100 mbit on the interface?

    best regards
    Thomas

    It may not support 100Mbps.

    Try running:

    ifconfig -m ix0

    Assuming it is ix0.

It does indeed say only 1gbit and 10 gbit as supported media, i was just wondering if there were a solution since both supermicro and intel says the nic should support 100 mbit if i am assuming correct that it is the x557 which is onboard.

Could be the FreeBSD driver hasn't caught up with it yet. You might try a 2.4.4a snapshot or todays 2.4.3RC.

If it doesn't list it there though there's probably nothing to be done.

You could always use a passive switch in between.

Already on the 2.4.4 snapshots, but seems likely that it could be the drivers, but for now a switch in between will have to do until i get some spare time.

  • Could try a bridge/switch between.

The only other thing I can suggest is try a FreeBSD install. If you try FreeBSD 12 it will have the most recent drivers. You may be able to compile them against 11.1 if there is better support there.

  • LOL. That NIC maybe TOO advanced! :)
