New user set up
-
I have never used pfsense before. I have been using an asus ac68u router up to now but had some old hardware laying around I thought I would give pfsense ago. I was hoping to give a description of the set up I'm aiming for and get a few pointers. I would like to have 3 VLANs
1 - clients going through airvpn.
2 - clients not on VPN (Streaming boxs, gaming console etc)
3 - WiFi access points and maybe later on IP CamsIs there any benefit to using different a interface for each VLAN or just the one interface?
Can I have a file server on VLAN1 but serve clients on VLAN2 as well
Can a network printer serve all VLANSI have 3 TP-Link managed switched after pfsense. A 16 port than feeds of to 2 other 8 port switches. I would also like to have anti-virus and maybe later on some web filtering. Is what I described possible any pointers I would be grateful Thanks!

Is there any benefit to using different a interface for each VLAN or just the one interface? VLANs are a solution to the problem of having limited interfaces with multiple networks. If you have interfaces, you don't necessarily need VLANs. Can I have a file server on VLAN1 but serve clients on VLAN2 as well Yes. Can a network printer serve all VLANS Yes.

Sounds to me like you don't really need VLANs. For your VPN clients you can simply use an alias consisting of a list of IPs to route over the VPN. You wouldn't need a VLAN for wifi either unless you wanted a separate Guest WiFi Network.
