Syncing hostnames from dhcpv4
-
Hi,
The majority of the devices on my network were originally ipv4 and I had set up static ip's/hostnames in the ipv4 DHCP server. Now that most of them also support IPv6 and I have DHCPv6 running on pfsense, it would be good to sync the mac address and hostname from the DHCPv4 static list to the DHCPv6 leases page if there is not a specific setup for that host in the DHCPv6 static list.Is this possible with a setting or should i file an enhancement request on redmine?

I did a redmine for the DNS Resolver over a year ago, not much has happened with it.

bummer. :(

Why would you need this? dhcpv6 doesn't use mac.. It uses the DUID to assign an IP.
NogBadTheBad your talking about unbound host override. Not at all what ghuland is asking about.. Host overrides have nothing to do with mac address.
As to creating hosts with ipv4 and ipv6 at the same time - if you have a lot of hosts to import. You can just do it via a file, or pasting into the custom box.. Not sure why gui would need to do both.. You can do either or in the gui… Host overrides are really meant as 1 offs..
What exactly are you trying to accomplish ghulands?

Yup I know, what I was trying to get across was my redmine hasn't really been seen as a priority so the OPs redmine if he was to create one would be treated in the same.

Your request is pretty low priority stuff ;) I mean really… To be honest adding box to be able to add IPv6 and IPv4 at the same time more than likely just confuse the user and cause more grief then the 1 person that would want the feature (you).

I was hoping to be able to easily identify the hosts. Since IPv6 doesn't use the MAC I guess I'm SOL.
I ended up just sshing into all the machines to find their dhcpv6 address and then created a static for them. I just did it for consistency in identify traffic through the firewall. eg. a machine with a static IPv4 192.168.1.12 would have a dhcpv6 static as ::0012.

You'll see the MACs in the NDP table
Diagnostics -> NDP Table

it doesn't use mac for dhcp statics. But sure still using mac to talk on the wire.
