XG-7100
-
If you plan to buy a Netgate XG-7100 be care ful with product specifications:
https://www.netgate.com/solutions/pfsense/xg-7100-1u.html
If you think you have 8 RJ45 interfaces, that's not true. You have 2 RJ45 and a switch with 6 ports.
And 2 10GbE Intel x553 SFP.
And this equipement, out of the box, have a configuration you probably can't use as is. And you probably never use.
@Netgate: This is a very strange idea. Why do you do that ? -
It does state :-
Network Interfaces
2x 10GbE Intel x553 SFP+ Ports
8-port 1Gbps Marvell 88E6190 switch uplinked at 5 Gbps to Intel SoC (2x 2.5 Gbps) for LAN.
Network Expansion Options
4-Port Intel GbE
It's only one device up from the SG-3100 that also has a 4 port switch.
-
Correct, it does state it has a switch.
And this equipement, out of the box, have a configuration you probably can't use as is. And you probably never use.
What do you mean? Have you purchased XG-7100?
@Netgate: This is a very strange idea. Why do you do that ?
You wouldn't believe just how many times someone asked about "pfSense switch".
Also check https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/xg-7100/switch-overview.html

Yes i purchase a xg-7100 and it was delivered before the documentation update.
First my reseller think the hardware was broken ! He did not understand either. Thanks for the link.
This link is new ( Last updated on Apr 12, 2018 ) Last week it was not available or i miss something ?. It would have been very useful this last week. And probably avoid me a headache !
And what append if you don't need or don't want Vlans ?
I suggest to update technical specification to avoid misunderstanding of capabilities product. You wouldn't believe just how many times someone asked about "pfSense switch".
Maybe. But i don't need it. Is there not enough switchs vendors ?
-
How was it worded on your re-sellers web page ?
I'd have expected they to know the product they're selling.

I'd have expected they to know the product they're selling.
Me too
-
And what append if you don't need or don't want Vlans ?
You don't need to use VLAN's but if you want to assign each of the 8 ports as individual ports you can do so, by using VLAN's.
-
Exactly what i don't want !

Exactly what i don't want !
I'd return it to the supplier if the wording on their web page doesn't state they're switch ports, the Netgate page states switch.
How many non switch port interfaces do you need ?
-
Six at least. Seven if we want be comfortable.
-
FYI, you can return the device if it's under 30 days since purchase.
-
Thanks . Is the 8860 1U available again ?
-

I'd buy a 4 port Intel card for the XG-7100
-
No, SG-8860 1U has reached End of Sale. We are working on more appliances but it won't be immediate. Or add a 4 port upgrade card as NogBadTheBad suggests.
-
Ok, we probably add a card with four ports.
Aa appliance such as 88601u is really missing. -
Finally we return the device. And looking for an other device.
-
i've considered purchasing a 7100 but its extremely overkill for me. I am eagerly waiting for new devices to come available.
so i understand the issue before it was returned
you don't like the fact that port 1 is the wan. and you only have 7 ports remaining after that?
-
I don't like lan and wan in a LAGG only separated by vlans, and the fact others ports are not physically separated but just a switch with only vlans option.

Luckily the world doesn't revolve around you, so what you like or dislike is not that important. :P
