You don't need to configure a subnet or gateway in the phone app for the same reason you need need one in your web browser. It just uses the hosts IP stack with whatever the default route is.

Quite so. Not thinking straight. Not enough beer. ;)

...or too many. Tough to stay o the Ballmer peak for any length of time.
@mtk If the amp has a webgui for configuring it I assume you can hit that from any device on any subnet?

Yes, I can access the Marantz webgui from all WIFI connected devices.

HEOS App
I just installed the Marantz 2016 AVR Remote which doesn't support my old Marantz, but I added its IP manually and actually got a message saying something like:
NR1504 is not compatible with this app use the other
so my Android DOES manage to see the Marantz after all... -
@mtk Great or not, you decide.
This means that the network is out of the equation and the "problem" is with the Android App only.
Good luck getting that one fixed with Denon/Marantz! -

Good luck getting that one fixed with Denon/Marantz!And Spotify as well...

I just figured out the reason that my Android's Spotify doesn't recognise the Marantz:
the Spotify app was set to "show only devices on my network".
when I set this OFF, the Marantz appear in the list.
This still doesn't explain why does Spotify thing the Marantz is actually "outside" of the network...

I expect it considers "on network" to mean there's no router in between. When you go through a router, it has no idea where the device might be.

That^.
Seems like a fairly accurate description to me.There are 3rd party apps for controlling Denon/Marantz stuff. One of those might work for you.
